In 2017, Messe Stuttgart continued to consistently pursue its course of growth in its tenth year of operation at the new trade fair centre. With around 131 million Euro, Landesmesse Stuttgart GmbH generated the highest total income in an uneven year, in which large international trade fairs regularly do not take place. Right on time for CMT, the world's largest consumer show for tourism and leisure, the new Paul Horn Hall (Hall 10) and the expanded Entrance West are coming into service. And for the financial year 2018, President Ulrich Kromer is already forecasting records.
"We are increasingly successful in adapting our product portfolio also for the uneven years, which are weaker according to the principle of rotation. We completed 2017 with a result far in excess of our expectations," said Kromer in an initial summary at today's annual press conference. The reasons, he said, were, firstly, the good development of Messe Stuttgart's own events and, secondly, the increasing popularity of the location of Stuttgart for guest trade fairs and congresses.
Last year, a total of 22,711 exhibitors presented their offers at Europe's most modern trade fair centre – more than ever before. With a hall turnover factor of 15.2, in 2017 Stuttgart was once again one of the trade fair centres with the highest capacity utilisation in Europe. The number of 57 trade fairs at the Stuttgart location comprises 35 own events and 22 guest events. 1.28 million visitors attended the events in the trade fair halls and in the ICS International Congress Center Stuttgart.
President Roland Bleinroth is in particular delighted with the success of the Stuttgart company's internationalisation strategy: "Our commitment in 52 countries is paying off. Meanwhile, a quarter of our exhibitors and ten per cent of the visitors come from abroad."
The successful event business in 2017 is also reflected in the preliminary business figures. For the financial year just ended, the company expects total earnings of around 131 million Euro. The turnover generated resulted in a profit of around 17 million Euro before leasing and income tax.
For the coming financial year, Ulrich Kromer forecasts new records for the Stuttgart location: "Never before has the event calendar been so full. We are anticipating almost 24,000 exhibitors. We are targeting a turnover of over 170 million Euro, and a profit of 33 million Euro." The world-leading trade fair R+T (27 February to 3 March), which takes place only every three years, is on the schedule, as well as Intergastra (3 to 7 February) and AMB (18 to 22 September). These three trade fairs, like CMT, will completely fill the whole trade fair centre - including the new Paul Horn Hall. "CMT 2018 will inaugurate the hall on its 50th anniversary. A great combination," adds Roland Bleinroth.
Messe Stuttgart will again extend its product portfolio with new events in 2018. With elect! (8 to 10 October), Messe Stuttgart is creating an international platform consisting of a trade fair and congress for the future of mobility. Experts from around the world will meet to discuss new concepts and technologies together. Innovative product groups, components and solutions will be presented at the trade fair. For three days, the sector of electrified mobility will meet in Stuttgart.
With CastForge, Messe Stuttgart is expanding its product portfolio for industrial trade fairs. The trade fair for castings and forgings and their machining will celebrate its première in Stuttgart from 5 to 7 June. Cast and forged products have never been in such demand. With CastForge, Messe Stuttgart is offering manufacturers a platform of their own for the first time to showcase their extensive range of services and products in steel, grey and nodular cast iron and forged parts to an international audience in one of Europe's strongest economic regions.
A new cooperation venture is being created in the field of tourism trade fairs. From 2018, CMT is to cooperate with Fleet Events and Messe Leipzig in order to further develop the leading trade fair in eastern and central Germany, Touristik & Caravaning (TC), at the Leipzig location. "With CMT, over the past five decades we have gathered considerable experience in the areas of tourism and caravaning. We are very much looking forward to the exciting task of demonstrating this expertise in future not only in Stuttgart and Nanjing, but also in Leipzig," says Roland Bleinroth, President responsible for CMT.
Messe Stuttgart is planning to further expand its Iran business in 2018. A partnership is now to be established with the most important Iranian trade fair for the bakery trade. ibex has been held annually since 2007. For the next event in December 2018, in its capacity as organiser of the trade fair, Messe Stuttgart wants to take charge of everything relating to international exhibitors and local implementation. The focal points of ibex are bakery and confectionery machinery, flour mills and machines for producing and processing flour, raw materials and additives, as well as packaging technology. Ulrich Kromer welcomed the conclusion of the contract: "Something which belongs together has come together here - the entire Iranian bakery industry and a trade fair organiser with experience internationally and in Iran. We have been focusing very successfully on the topic of bakers and confectioners with südback in Stuttgart for 39 years, while we are the market leader in Turkey with the Ibatech events.“ Messe Stuttgart has been active in Iran since the lifting of the sanctions in January 2016 and stages AMB Iran, International Exhibition for Metal Working, every year together with the German Machine Tool Builders' Association (VDW). As the organiser with its own office in Iran, Messe Stuttgart is responsible for international and local sales, as well as the entire management of the event on location.
