Baden-Württemberg offers companies in the environmental technology industry the best location-specific conditions - with its universities, networks, and an outstanding research and technology transfer base. Learn more about potential, locations, facilities, networks and opportunities for cooperation.
Numerous products and procedures that are used successfully today worldwide to protect the environment have resulted from the close cooperation between research institutes and companies in Baden-Württemberg.
The intensive occupation by business with environmental technology issues also leads to long-term and successful cooperation with environmental research in Baden-Württemberg. For example, the Stuttgart Region Economic Development Corporation (WRS) has already initiated three innovation and competence centers for environmental technology in which companies and research cooperate successfully with each other.
Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe
Umweltzentrum Vaihingen/Enz (Environment Center Vaihingen/Enz)
The goal of the Vaihingen Environmental Center is to attract established companies and start-ups in all areas of process and environmental engineering. The companies profit here from technology and marketing advice, reduced rents, an extensive office infrastructure as well as conferences and symposia. Sponsor of the Environmental Center are the city of Vaihingen and the company Goema.
Life Science Center Esslingen am Neckar
The official life science competence center of the Stuttgart region goes technologically beyond biotechnology and is directed at the future-oriented markets of health, nutrition, agricultural and environment. The business support activity of the city of Esslingen am Neckar assists the companies of the Life Science Center in all business matters. Currently, 9 companies reside in around 1,000 square meters of laboratory and 1,000 square meters of office space. The second construction stage is already in planning.

BioRegion Freiburg
Since 1996, BioRegio Freiburg is counted among the most successful bioregions in Germany - with more than 100 companies and 70 research departments in the area of life sciences as well as over 40 newly founded biotech companies. The research emphases are in the areas of red biotechnology, tissue engineering, biochips and green biotechnology.
The region in the so-called BioValley combines the biotechnology activities of south Baden, northwest Switzerland and Alsace. The network is promoted by the BioMed Freiburg foundation, which has also established the BioTechPark Freiburg and BioDigital, the international professional exhibition for biotechnology, bioinformatics and microarrays, in Freiburg. Numerous research institutes and international pharmaceutical companies, such as Novartis, Roche and Aventis, as well as small life science companies, such as BioChip Technologies GmbH, Metrum Bioinformatik AG und GeneScan Europe AG, ensure a compact competence network.
