The Software-Forum Oberrhein is an initiative of the Freiburg Wirtschaft und Touristik GmbH & Co. KG, the IHK Südlicher Oberrhein and the WVIB e.V. for suppliers and users of information technology. Besides a comprehensive industry guide with famous companies like infor AG, Kaba Benzing GmbH, LEXWARE GmbH & Co. KG, schuler business software GmbH und der WEB.DE AG, the Software-Forum Oberrhein has close contact to the research institutions in the region. Apart from the numerous institutes at the universities of Freiburg and Karlsruhe and the different universities of applied sciences there are special facilities of the Fachinformationszentrum Karlsruhe and the Fraunhofer-Institut für Informations- und Datenverarbeitung IITB.
